Double mount of a Crimson-rumped Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus haematopygus)
For birds as well as for mammals, it is possible to make so called “ Double mounts”
. This means you can have two mounts out of one specimen. In the regular mounting
procedure it is custom to use certain parts of the skeleton such as the beak and
nails. Therefor you have to choose rather to make a skeleton OR a mounted bird. With
this procedure you don’t have to choose anymore, it can be done both. Molds will
be made from certain parts and the casts out of these molds are painted. After assembling
there is the skeleton and a skinmount ! below an example.
